Recipe Note
Toppings for our protein waffles
Protein waffles don't always have to be sweet! Savory protein waffles are especially popular for brunch or after a workout! We've collected our favorite combinations for you.
Sweet:
classically with maple syrup
with a scoop of ice cream and fresh fruit
with berry compote or jam
with chocolate spread
with nut butter and banana
You can also easily turn your protein waffles into delicious fruit waffles. Whether apple, (wild) blueberries, or strawberries - the combination of fruit and waffles is simply heavenly!
Here's how: Peel and grate your fruit and stir it into the batter. If your fruit is already very small (such as blueberries), you can leave it whole or lightly mash it with a fork. Bake the waffles as usual and you'll have apple, berry, or mango waffles - with an extra portion of protein.
Not a fan of fruit? Alternatively, you can make Protein Chocolate Waffles: Replace the vanilla protein powder with a cocoa protein powder or replace some of the flour with unsweetened cocoa powder. Caution: This will make the batter a little more bitter, so feel free to add a little more maple syrup to the batter.
Savory:
Very important: Use neutral protein powder for this, with no vanilla extract and no additional sweetness in the batter!
Fried mushrooms and onions
Guacamole and fresh tomatoes

Ingredient substitution table
How often do we want to make a recipe, only to find that we are missing certain ingredients or don't like individual components? For this situation, we have created an ingredient substitution table for you so that you can adapt the recipe to your liking! Simply replace individual ingredients as you wish!
Plant-based milk alternative → milk in all shapes and forms, both plant-based and animal-based
Wheat flour → any type of flour; if you want your protein waffles to be gluten-free, make sure to use gluten-free flours such as almond or oat flour
Protein powder → instead of protein powder, you can use an equal amount of flour
Cream of tartar baking powder → regular baking powder
Vanilla → you can either leave it out or replace it with other ingredients (e.g., tonka bean, speculoos spice)
Lemon juice → apple cider vinegar
Maple syrup for sweetening → honey, sugar, and anything else that's sweet!
Our vanilla protein waffles are vegan, but of course you can also use animal-based ingredients if you wish!
*We like to use cream of tartar baking powder because, unlike regular baking powder, it contains no added phosphates.
